CBS's The 48th Annual Grammy Awards were ok. I caught the highlights and the show was better than previous years. I don't want to say that it was a perfect program, but based on what they could have done, they did well. I'm sort of saying this begrudgingly because I expected it to suck and it really didn't. In fact, there were several moments that were truly inspired, including the Sly tribute, John Legend's low key performance and Christina Aguilera with Herbie Hancock. Paul McCartney was excellent and it was a treat to see him do "Yesterday" with Jay-Z and Linkin Park. And how about Kelly Clarkson?
Meanwhile, over on Fox's "American Idol," Kelly's now forgotten starting point, the performances were intriguing, and I have to wonder about security when it comes to these contestants. There was one freak who lept from the stage to the judge's table, startling Paula. I presume they check everyone for weapons, but if he had a knife from room service or something like that, he could have done damage had he wanted.
And on ABC's "Lost,", they had the best episode I think since the first one of the season. Rather that listing any spoilers here, I'll just say that it was watchworthy. Hopefully this will continue right through February Sweeps and straight to the season finale. They owe the loyal viewers who have sat through the dregs of the first half of this season at least that.

Kelly's performance was ok, but her winning a Grammy was the priceless moment. She was all weepy and sweet. She beat out Mariah in one category and McCartney in another!
It was a long show, but I didn't think it dragged anywhere, and they managed to cover most all forms of music, at least in some way.

To me, the Grammy's were all Rap, Politics and unfairness.
At least Coldplay performed. Alison Krauss and Union Station were given 3 awards. Keane IS the best new artist. NOT John Legend. UNFAIRNESS! U2 ran away with the awards Coldplay and Rascal Flatts desevred. I'm sorry. i needed to get that outta my System

Mariah Carey has made a comeback, but what did she go through to need one?
Christina Aguilera has the best voice of Britney, Mandy and Jessica, the other three blond teens that all turned up around the same timeframe, and yet she somehow hasn't translated that into being the biggest star.
Personally, I think you DON'T want to win the Best New Artist award.
I tend to agree with your U2 assessment. I think people are enamored with Bono's political commentary and the glow from that makes people vote for the band. It's not even about the music anymore (though the music is ok).
I had thought that CiC was cancelled, but another person who reads tells me it was just put on hiatus. However Love Monkey was cancelled by CBS and Blue Collar TV? I think they're just cleaning house over at the WB, since they won't be around much longer.
